2026-03-04 / Oral Question under Standing Order 27(2): Middle East Conflict and Strait of Hormuz Impact
Hon. Vijitha Herath - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism
2026-03-04
Minister of Foreign Affairs Vijitha Herath addressed concerns about the Strait of Hormuz's potential impact on Sri Lanka's fuel supply, stating that current crude oil stocks are sufficient until August and that the strait does not presently pose a significant disruption. He assured Parliament that contingency plans and arrangements are in place should global production or supply flows be adversely affected.
Hon. Leader of the Opposition, we must all understand the supply chain. As of now, we have crude stocks sufficient until August. Therefore, Hormuz does not presently pose a major disruption to us. That said, if global production or flows are affected, we will take the necessary measures. We hope for the best, but we are prepared for adverse scenarios as well, with plans and arrangements already in place.
