Hon. S.M. Marikkar

2026-02-05

Hon. S.M. Marikkar raised a Point of Order calling on the Speaker to intervene in a matter concerning a recommendation made by the Inspector General of Police (IGP). He highlighted that the IGP had indicated a government policy decision was preventing the provision of certain unspecified information or action, and argued that this constituted a political decision. Marikkar contended that ultimate responsibility in this matter rested with the Speaker, and urged the Speaker to intervene accordingly.

Sir, I rise to a Point of Order. I previously wrote to the IGP. Ultimately the responsibility regarding the IGP’s recommendation lies with you, Hon. Speaker. The IGP says there is a Government policy decision not to provide it, and if the Government breaks that decision, then it can be given. That shows it is a political decision. Will you not intervene?
