Deputy Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr. Madhura Senevirathna clarified that under ongoing curriculum reforms, the new curriculum is being introduced for Grade 1 starting this year, while Grade 6 remains on the old curriculum. He specified that digital boards or devices are not required for Grade 1 educational activities, and in response to complaints that some schools were collecting funds for such equipment, the Prime Minister confirmed that such collections are unnecessary.
Thank you for the question. Under the reforms, teaching begins this year for Grade 1 with the new curriculum, while Grade 6 continues under the old curriculum.
For Grade 1, digital boards or digital devices are not required for educational activities. We have clearly stated this. We received complaints from some schools that funds were being collected to buy smart boards and devices. Therefore, the Hon. Prime Minister stated that collection of funds for Grade 1 for such equipment is unnecessary.
