Hon. Muneer Mulaffer - Deputy Minister of Religious and Cultural Affairs

2026-02-06

Deputy Minister Mulaffer alleged that an unnamed Eastern politician is conspiring to block a Saudi-funded housing project in Nuraichcholai, which involves 500 houses, by inciting racist protests in the South, motivated by political self-interest. He also criticized an unnamed former minister for failing to resolve a road issue despite having the ministerial authority to do so. Regarding his Ministry, he stated that mosques should not be used for political purposes and committed to taking action against the politicization of religious places under the current administration.

There is no need for me to mention names. From what I said, everyone in this country knows who it concerns. Even when that Hon. Member held a powerful ministerial post, he could have resolved the road issue but did not. I also wish to note: in the Saudi-funded Nuraichcholai housing project, 500 houses are to be given to the people, but an Eastern politician is again conspiring to block it by inciting racist protests in the South — simply fearing he cannot do politics if those houses reach the rightful beneficiaries. I have even discussed this with the late Minister M.H.M. Ashraff in the past. Everyone knows who is doing this. Regarding my Ministry: generally, mosques should not be used for politics. Unfortunately, some have used religious places to flex political muscle. Under this administration, we will act to change that. Thank you.
