2026-02-17 / Question by Private Notice: Registration of Madrasas and Arabic Colleges

Hon. (Dr.) M.L.A.M. Hizbullah

2026-02-17

Dr. Hizbullah raised the longstanding issue of a common syllabus for Arabic colleges, noting that despite a ministerial committee of professors having submitted reports, progress has stalled for six to seven years due to disagreements between the Education authorities and the Muslim Cultural Affairs Department. He urged the registration of remaining long-functioning Arabic colleges alongside the approximately 320 already registered, and called for the common syllabus to be implemented once finalised, expressing hope that this would be achieved within the current minister's tenure.

On the “common syllabus for Arabic colleges,” this has been discussed for 6–7 years. A committee of professors appointed by the Ministry of Education has submitted reports, but differences between the Education authorities and the Muslim Cultural Affairs Department have delayed progress. Around 320 colleges are already registered; please register the remaining long-functioning colleges alongside them now, and apply the common syllabus when it is in force. We hope this can be done within your tenure.
