The Minister of Plantation and Community Infrastructure provided a written parliamentary answer detailing housing stock and funding allocations for estate housing in the Ratnapura District. The district contains a total of 24,235 estate housing units across various categories, including single houses, twin cottages, line rooms, and temporary sheds. National funding allocations for estate housing development ranged from Rs. 300 million to Rs. 1,000 million annually between 2020 and 2025, with Ratnapura District specifically receiving Rs. 58.5 million in 2021 and Rs. 10.2 million in 2025. The Minister noted that ongoing projects are being expedited, with supporting annexures tabled before the House.
Hon. Speaker, the answers are as follows:
(a)
(i) Number of houses in the Ratnapura District:
- Single houses: 3,717
- Twin cottages: 2,869
- Line rooms – single barrack: 6,876
- Line rooms – double barrack: 8,605
- Upstair line rooms: 9
- Temporary sheds: 2,159
- Total: 24,235
(ii) Funds allocated for development of estate houses:
- 2020: Rs. 680.79 million
- 2021: Rs. 1,000 million
- 2022: Rs. 300 million
- 2023: Rs. 500 million
- 2024: Rs. 500 million
- 2025: Rs. 767 million
For Ratnapura District:
- 2021: Rs. 58.5 million
- 2025: Rs. 10.2 million
(iii) Ongoing projects are being expedited as set out in the annexures.
