Hon. Aravinda Senarath responded to a supplementary question by outlining the government's plans to allocate state lands for agricultural cultivation, framed within the policy statement "A Prosperous Country – A Beautiful Life." He stated that LRC and other state lands suitable for cultivation are being identified and allocated through lawful procedures, with the process coordinated through Divisional Coordinating Committees. The minister indicated that a systematic land allocation mechanism is being established specifically to support youth entrepreneurs and others wishing to contribute to agricultural production.
Hon. Speaker, the Hon. Member’s second supplementary is very important. In line with our policy statement “A Prosperous Country – A Beautiful Life”, we have planned to accelerate national production. Across the country, entrepreneurs and youth have been requesting lands for cultivation. We have paid special attention and, even now, are implementing arrangements.
Specifically, we are identifying LRC and other State lands suitable for cultivation and development, and are already allocating lands for some projects. Lands identified for cultivation and development will be granted under lawful procedures. This matter has also been referred to the relevant Divisional Coordinating Committees under the Hon. Member’s coordination. Based on information through those committees, we are setting up a proper process. I am happy to state that we are prepared to allocate lands under a systematic procedure to youth entrepreneurs and all who wish to engage in cultivation and contribute to the economy.
