Hon. M.S. Abthul Wazeeth raised a supplementary question regarding disaster relief compensation for a specific fisher affected by a disaster in November 2025. He cited the case of M.I. Tasleem of the Jalaldeen Square area, Pottuvil DS Division, whose fibreglass boat, nets, and fishing gear — valued at approximately Rs. 3,560,000 — were lost or damaged, as documented by a police complaint dated 27 November 2025. The member noted that the loss affected approximately 30 families dependent on this fisher's operations. He requested that the Government expeditiously provide compensation to enable the affected fisher to resume his livelihood, and submitted supporting documents to the House.
Thank you, Hon. Minister. My first supplementary:
Due to the disaster situation last November, fishers and farmers across the country were affected. In the Jalaldeen Square area in Pottuvil DS Division, a shore seine fisher, M.I. Tasleem, was affected. His registration is NBSB-A-0150-TLE.2415. His fibreglass boat, 35 pieces of nets, shore seine gear, trawl nets, rope rolls, hauling ropes and line nets—valued at about Rs. 3,560,000—were damaged, as confirmed by Police complaint CIB-11 327/277 dated 2025.11.27. The incident occurred at 10.00 p.m. on 2025.11.26. His boat and gear could not be found thereafter, affecting about 30 families who worked with him. Will the Government provide compensation expeditiously to enable him to recommence fishing? I submit the documents to the House.
