Hon. (Dr.) Anil Jayantha, acting on behalf of the Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development, moved a motion seeking parliamentary approval for regulations made under multiple sections of the Motor Traffic Act (Chapter 203). The regulations, published in Gazette Extraordinary No. 2463/04 on 17 November 2025 and presented to Parliament on 6 February 2026, were promulgated under sections 44, 123–126A, 128, 132, 132A, and 231 read with section 237 of the Act. The speaker noted that Cabinet approval had already been granted for the regulations.
On behalf of the Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development, I move:
“That the regulations made by the Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development under sections 44, 123, 124, 125, 126, 126A, 128, 132, 132A and 231 read with section 237 of the Motor Traffic Act (Chapter 203), published in Gazette Extraordinary No. 2463/04 of 2025-11-17 and presented on 2026-02-06, be approved.
(Cabinet approval has been granted.)”
