Leader of the Opposition Hon. Sajith Premadasa firmly denied allegations that his party promotes or harbours criminal elements, rejecting any association with the underworld, killings, robbery, or corruption. He called on the Minister to immediately direct the Inspector General of Police to investigate and arrest individuals engaged in underworld activities, pledging the Opposition's full support for such law enforcement action.
Mr. Deputy Speaker, I reiterate to Hon. Ananda Wijepala: our party does not promote or incubate the underworld. We reject killings, robbery and corruption in all forms. Do not tell me to send messages to this or that person about intelligence or phone conversations. Hon. Minister, please do not waste a second; now instruct the IGP to investigate and, where persons are engaged in underworld activities, to arrest and produce them before the law. We will give full support to that process.
